Letter from a member of the group behind Stoprobbie.com to IIG Investigator Jarrett Kaufman
Jarrett
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to speak about Robbie Thomas specifically and in general about the movement to stop him from continuing to re-victimize families. As much as I see Robbie Thomas losing credibility, I am not as fond of the idea of it occurring because of actions in his personal life. It is likely not going to result in much change of public opinion about psychics. The downward spiral of Robbie Thomas, however it happens, is a positive thing for everyone involved and we should celebrate the success.
What Robbie does that we find so despicable is simply taking advantage of people at, possibly, their most vulnerable times. Imagine, for a second, losing a close family member to a horrific crime – be it murder or abduction – and you can understand why it is that people will accept anything that appears to offer a modicum of hope. We can’t be blaming people for accepting his offers as it is their willingness to accept this supposed assistance that gives the rest of us hope in humanity. It is the actions of Robbie Thomas that give us reason to despair.
I became involved in the whole Robbie Thomas affair after reading about his supposed involvement in local criminal cases and knowing that much of what he was claiming could not possibly be true. I contacted another person who had expressed concern in our local paper about Robbie’s claims and from those simple beginnings; two tiny skeptical voices began to be heard. Neither I nor anyone in our "group" is looking for publicity, public recognition or any sort of praise. My uncle would always ask who should get the credit when a group of people work together to achieve something like carrying a heavy object into a house – is it the first person to lift or the last one? It is every one – no single person could have achieved individually what the collective group was somewhat easily able to do. If there is a single message for skeptics out there it is that your voice does matter and your push for critical thinking does make a difference.
I would have to give credit to the likes of Penn & Teller, IIGWest, James Randi and CFI – collectively you have inspired millions of people to do just as everyone should do when it comes to stopping others from abusing those that we share the planet with. Speak up skeptics – we can make a difference.
